FAQ’s

1. What happens if I forget my Master Key or Passphrase?

Unfortunately, if you lose your Master Key or Passphrase, you will no longer have access to your stored credentials. For security reasons, DontSpoof Vault does not store or recover your Master Key or Passphrase.
However, if you have previously downloaded a backup file:
You can create a new Master Key and use the Passphrase from your last backup to import your data.
Without the backup’s associated Passphrase, the data cannot be restored.

2. Can I recover my data if I accidentally clear my browser’s data or cache?

If your browser data or cache is cleared, Vault data will also be deleted. To prevent data loss:
Manually download backups regularly from the Vault’s settings.
Use these backups to restore your data if necessary.
Unfortunately, for security reasons, browsers do not allow automatic downloading of backups.

3. Why doesn’t DontSpoof Vault support automatic backups?

Vault prioritizes your security and privacy:
Automatic backups are not allowed due to browser restrictions and to protect your sensitive data.
You must manually download your backup file to ensure you retain control over your data.
We recommend scheduling regular backups to ensure you don’t lose your credentials in case of unexpected browser data loss.

4. How do I restore my data from a backup?

To restore your data:
Go to Settings in DontSpoof Vault.
Use the Import Backup option.
Enter the Passphrase used when creating the backup.
Upload the .dsvault backup file to complete the restoration.
Important: Without the correct Passphrase, the backup cannot be decrypted, and your data cannot be restored.

5. Why do I need both a Master Key and a Passphrase?

The Master Key protects your session and encrypted data, while the Passphrase is required to restore backups. This dual-layer security ensures:
Your data remains secure even if someone gains access to your Master Key.
Restoring data from backups requires additional verification via the Passphrase.

6. Can I share my Master Key or Passphrase with someone?

No. For security reasons:
Never share your Master Key or Passphrase.
Use the secure password-sharing feature to share specific credentials without exposing sensitive details.

7. What happens if I delete all data from DontSpoof Vault?

If you use the Delete All Data option:
All credentials stored in Vault will be permanently deleted.
Ensure you have a recent backup file and its associated Passphrase to restore your data if needed.

8. Why do I need to log in again after some time?

For enhanced security, Vault automatically ends your session after a period of inactivity. This prevents unauthorized access to your credentials if your browser is left unattended.
You can always log back in using your Master Key and Passphrase.

9. Is my data stored in the cloud or on a server?

No. All your data is stored locally in your browser’s encrypted storage. Vault does not transmit or store your data on external servers, ensuring complete privacy and control.
